Phelon is a custom D&D setting. There are no Gnomes or Half Orcs in Phelon.
FAITHS of the ISLES
The first and most common is the Faith of the Black Sun. The one and only Deity in the Faith of the Black Sun is Poln, known as the Dark Light. Poln is the last of the Old Gods, the only survivor of the ancient Pantheon of Phelon. He is a dictator ruling his people with an iron fist. He is associated with Law, Evil, Death, Destruction, Hate, Fear, and Order. His preferred weapon is the Whip.
The second is The Faith of the Guardian. This small pantheon consists of three deities, The Guardian, a human bard raised to divine status to defend the gates to the bottom of the Nine Hells. The second god is Reginald, known as the Shield. Third in this pantheon is the Sword. The exact origin of the Sword is unknown, and the church of the Sword keeps it's secrets.
The third is the Faith of the Old Gods. This is the faith that all Druids and most Rangers follow. The old gods were fifteen nature deities that destroyed themselves in the Godswar. However, Gods are almost impossible to destroy, and in the 1000 years since the end of the Godswar they have regained some of there abilities. The Faith of the Guardian has turned over all nature domains to the Old Gods. The Old Gods have learned from their old mistakes, and while they still follow their individual philosophies, they do not let it grow to the point of actual war and have established a divine court to oversee any disputes between the Gods. Only fourteen of the old gods have risen to power again. It is not known what happened to the fifteenth, a goddess of Justice whose name has been lost to time.

Regions of Phelon
Tyr Sal: (The Shield) This Empire was founded by a descendent of the Josephson family line. When the wanderlust took him, as it took so many members of that cursed family, he changed his name to Joseph Samson. When he decided to settle down, he settled on the northern most island of Phelon, and established the Samson Empire, known to the rest of Phelon as The Shield Empire, as the Samson Empire has always absorbed the brunt of the rare invasions to the islands.
Tyr Loc: (The Light) The City of Light is the home of Damian Luvicus. It is one of the few areas where people of all races are accepted equally, and you are just as likely to see an Asimar or a Tiefling walking down the street as you are to see Half Elf or Dwarf. The city is also known as the Free City as it is the only civilization in the area that is ruled by an elected governing council instead of by an ancestral line.
The Forest Court: This is one of the two Elven civilizations in Phelon. It is ruled by the Forest Queen, Corral Thunderleaf. She has spent the last 100 years in a sleepless sleep, and her handmaidens have overseen the day to day functions of the Forest Court since she fell. There are many rumors about where the comatose queen is hidden, but if anyone knows where she actually is, they are not speaking it. (Note: As of the present campaign, the Forest Queen has just been awakened)
Havon: The Kingdom of Havon fell 1000 years ago at the end of the Godswar. Since then it has been run by the Lich King. Every vestige of the Kingdom of Havon has been corrupted, and the once pristine fields and cities are over run by Orcs, Goblins, and worse. The Lich King often sends his armies to assault the Successor States of Havon and Tyr Shmaulst, but has yet to make any headway into the neighboring Isles.
I'll put more of Phelon on line later. Hopefully between myself and the players in my campaigns, we can establish enough of a history and culture for all the lands, that way we can establish it as a true campaign setting. |
NPCs of Note
Damian Luvicus: Arch Mage of the Light, residing in the Crystal Tower of Tyr Loc. He has led countless adventuring parties to protect the isles. Rumors have it that he is over 1000 years old, that he was once offered the chance to become a deity but declined, that he spent most of his life wandering the planes, and that he was once an apprentice of the Lich King before the fall of Havon. It is not known if any of this is true.
Gigzit Stormwind: As the High Seer of Tyr Shmaulst, Gigzit is the king’s most valuable adviser. While all of the other advisers only know the here and now, Gigzit looks into the future, and can best advise his brother on the course to take for the alliance of Tyr Shmaulst.
Gogzit Stormwind: As king of Tyr Shmaulst, Gogzit Stormwind leads one of the greatest military forces on the Isles. He is an expert swordsman and archer, and his elite cavalry are all but unstoppable in battle. He became king when his great uncle died, and the council of Tyr Shmaulst selected the young elf as their next ruler. His reign will be fraught with peril as Tyr Shmaulst enters its most perilous times since the end of the Godswar. Rumors suggest that he and the Forrest Queen were once lovers, but no one can substantiate these rumors.
Jorick Revel: The second son of Duke Revel, Jorick is a scout in the Westend (This is a Working Name, the original name was Mystil, which got incorporated into the name of another island.) He is attached to the elite troop of Knights known as the Silver Dragon Knights as the head scout.
Sarquin Delius: He is the High Priest of the church of the Guardian. Once he belonged to the church of Poln, believing the rhetoric that Poln was the one true god, and that while he was cruel and vengeful, but was still a benign deity. As he rose in the church of Poln, he learned the truth and defected to the church of the Guardian, quickly rising in rank. Some say that he once traveled with avatars of the Pantheon of the Guardian, but it is unknown if this is true.
Aquilor Tay'lyn: A young priest in the church of the Guardian, Sarquin has already started grooming this young cleric to be the next high priest of the Guardian. As priests of the Guardian live long lives, sometimes up to 200 years, Aquilor will spend decades being trained in the three faiths of the church.
Corral Thunderleaf: Before she became the Forest Queen, Corral was an Elven noble in Tyr Shmaulst. She was once a conceited daddy's girl, but over the years she has seen to much of the world; to much evil, and matured quickly. As the Forest Queen, she is responsible for all the elves and fey of the forests. She has been in a cursed sleep for one hundred years. Recently she was awakened from her curse, and will desire to return to her throne.
Ka’tryn Havon: She is the last descendent of the Havon line. Many ancient prophecies point to her as the salvation of the Kingdom of Havon. She has her family’s ancestral sword, has been groomed by both Damian and Gigzit, and travels with the Knights of the Silver Dragon. Rumor has it that she is romantically involved with Jorick Revel, but it is not known if it is true, and the Knights of the Silver Dragon never stay still long enough to find out the truth.
Cloak: An exile from the Elven city of Tyr Shmaulst, he was banished for dueling a noblemen in the streets of the Pinnacle, and almost killing the noblemen. He is the partner of Dagger, helped found Nimble Valley, and is considered one of the foremost experts in stealth and information gathering in all the isles. Rumors have it that Cloak is now working with Tyr Shmaulst as Spymaster.
Dagger: The founder of the Nimble Valley thieves guilds, Dagger travels with Cloak. After founding the guilds of Nimble Valley, he turned over control of the guilds to experts in assorted fields of thievery, and returned to the road with his partner. Every now and then he returns to Nimble Valley, chooses a guild to target, and infiltrates the guild. If he successfully enters the guild, he eliminates the present guild leader and appoints a new leader of the guild. No guild has ever kept him out.
Chendra Gladespinner: The High Druid of the Glade, she has been leading the druids and the rangers for over 300 summers. All the power of Nature is hers to command, and it is said that when she rose to High Druid, she felled an entire castle belonging to He Who Shall Not Be Named. Though over 300 years old, she looks like a maiden in her early 20s, forever preserved by the Glade. She was once romantically involved with the Druid Carlos Leafwisp, and birthed the twins Jeneth and Syrah.
Carlos Leafwisp: He is the Father of Jeneth and Syrah. When the twins were born, it was decided that they would be raised by the father in the court of Duke Revel. Carlos had been serving as an advisor to Duke Revel for many years, but ten years after the twins were born, he was recalled to the Glade. He raised his daughters in the Druidic tradition, and was overwhelmed with pride when they both became druids. However, his greatest despair came when Syrah fell to He Who Shall Not Be Named.
Jeneth Leafwisp: As the daughter of Chendra Gladespinner and Carlos Leafwisp, she is one of the most powerful druids ever trained, despite her young age. Being raised in the court of Duke Revel, she was a childhood friend of Jorick Revel. When her sister fell to darkness, it became assumed amongst the Glade that Jeneth would be selected as the next Great Druid, if Chendra were to pass her final winter while Jeneth still lives.
Joseph Samson: He is the most recent in a long line of Joseph Samsons. Ever since his family split off from the Josephsons, they have maintained the first name Joseph as a reminder of where they came from. Joseph Samson is a barbarian king like all the Samsons who came before him. He personally leads his armies against the occasional invading forces to his island. His elite units, known simply as Berserkers, are amongst the most feared warriors of all the Isles.

Villains of the Isles
These characters are for DM reference. Any players reading these entries are to pretend they don't know anything about them unless the DM says other words. If you fail to play in character with this information, the DM will extract punishment. Oh yes, he will. Mwa, Ha, Ha! The Lich King: Also known as He Who Shall Not Be Named, the Lich King rose to power at the fall of ancient Havon. Since then, his sole purpose has been to take control of all the Isles. Due to the hazardous nature of the Straight of Corellion and the Leviathan Straight, he has been unsuccessful in his attempts at conquest.
The Black Knight: This is the leader of the Lich Kings armies. He wears solid black armor, carries the Black Sword, and has never met his match in combat. He leads an elite unit of Death Knights in the Lich Kings wars. Where the goblinoid armies have failed the Lich King, the Black Legion has struck fear in all they encounter. Many believe that the Black Knight is actually a Death Knight himself, a fallen warrior from Ancient Havon risen to do his masters bidding once more.
Syrah Leafwisp: She is the Lich Kings right hand. The twin sister of Jeneth Leafwisp, she was trained in the druidic traditions, but was lured by the Lich Kings promises of unlimited power. Whenever the Lich King needs information gathered from areas that he can not Scry, he sends Syrah. Whenever it is decided to assassinate someone instead of try to turn them, it is Syrah's blade that slits their throats. As Jeneth's twin, she was also raised in the court of Duke Revel, and was a childhood friend of Jorick's.

The Portals
In the ancient days, the old gods were given the task of guarding natural portals that lead to distant realms. Over the years, these gods starting fighting amongst themselves over personal Philosophy. This eventually led to the Godswar which began eons before the birth of the Kingdom of Havon, and ended the day that Havon fell into darkness. During the Godswar, mortals learned of these portals and certain people in positions of power attempted to align these portals with realms where they could draw forth power from dark and evil allies. One mortal by the name of John Revel stood against these villains and took it upon himself to protect his home from demonic invasion. He sacrificed himself to stop one such portal from being opened, and the gods decided to offer John Revel the chance to become a diety in payment for his services, and upon accepting, he ascended to become the Guardian, whose sole duty was to defend the portals and prevent their misuse by god and man alike. Legends say that there are 15 portals, one for each of the old gods. Some say that when Poln, the Guardian, the Sword, the and the Shield became deities of the Isles, new portals formed, but as the locations of all 15 of the original portals is unknown, it is impossible to tell if new portals have been formed.

Aewolyn Aewolyn was the greatest human Seer of the Old Kingdom. Little is still known of this ancient civilization that predated Havon. Few sages can read the texts of the Ancients, and only a hand full have ever even attempted to translate the prophesies of Aewolyn the Mad. His prophesies take many forms, and have been found throughout the realms. Of all the modern Wizards and Sages, Damian Luvicus is considered the only expert on the prophesies of Aewolyn.
